Best Smart Garage Door Opener for 2026 (After the myQ Change)

The short version

Chamberlain changed the rules on myQ at the end of 2025 and cut off a lot of the smart-home hookups people were counting on. So the old “just grab a myQ” advice doesn’t really hold up anymore. Here’s the quick pick, based on what you’ve got at home:

🍎 Apple / iPhone: Meross MSG200 (or ThirdReality if you want to spend less)
🚚 Want it to open by itself when you pull in: Tailwind iQ3
📦 Amazon drops packages inside your garage: Chamberlain myQ (it’s the only one that does this)
🌐 You run a mix of Apple, Google, and Alexa: get something that supports Matter, so one app runs it all

So what actually changed with myQ?

For years, myQ was the easy answer, and most of us just told people to buy one. Then late in 2025 Chamberlain pulled back the free hookups to Alexa, Google, and Apple, and a lot of setups quit working overnight. The good news for 2026: a new standard called Matter now works across Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, and SmartThings. Buy a Matter-ready opener and it’ll get along with whatever you already use at home.

Questions we get a lot

Does myQ still work with Alexa, Google, and HomeKit?

Not the way it used to. At the end of 2025 Chamberlain cut back the free third-party hookups, so Alexa and Google got spotty and there’s still no real HomeKit support. If smart-home control matters to you, go with an Apple-friendly or Matter-ready opener instead.

What’s the best one for Apple users?

The Meross MSG200. It works with HomeKit and Apple CarPlay, so you can open up with Siri or straight from the car. If you want to spend less, ThirdReality also does HomeKit and Matter.

Which one opens the door by itself when I get home?

The Tailwind iQ3. It picks up on your car and opens the door on its own, no app or button needed.

What’s Matter, and why does it matter?

It’s a smart-home standard that Apple, Google, Alexa, and SmartThings all support now. Buy a Matter-ready opener and any of them can control it, so you’re not stuck inside one brand’s app.

Can you install one of these for me?

Yep. We put in and set up smart openers all over the Indy metro, with a new door or on the one you’ve already got, including the app, keypads, and remotes. Free estimate to get going.
