Good to know

What usually causes an emergency call

Most stuck-door calls are one of these. If you can tell which, it helps us bring the right part.

A broken spring

The most common one by far. Springs are rated for a certain number of open and close cycles, and they tend to give out in cold weather. You’ll usually hear a bang, and the door becomes too heavy for the opener.

A door with a broken spring can drop. Don’t lift it by hand.

A cable off the drum or snapped

The door hangs crooked or jams halfway. Often it follows a broken spring or a rusted bottom bracket. More on our cable repair page.

Door off the track

Rollers have come out of the track, usually after a bump from a car, a bent track or a worn roller. Running the opener can make it worse.

The opener stopped

Sometimes it’s the opener, sometimes the door. If the door is balanced and the opener just hums or clicks, check the sensors and the remote first. Pulling the red emergency cord lets you run the door by hand, but only if the springs are intact.

What happened?

Tap your problem, see what to do

Lock the door from the garage into the house. That keeps the house closed up while you wait. Don’t keep pressing the opener. Then give us a call.
Don’t force the door up. If a spring broke, the door is a few hundred pounds of dead weight and can drop. We’ll get it open for you.
That’s usually a broken spring. Stop using the door and don’t lift it by hand. Look up at the bar above the door: a gap in the spring coil confirms it. Prices are on our spring page.
A cable likely came off on one side. Leave the door where it is and stay clear of it. More on our cable repair page.
Don’t run the opener on a bent door. It can pull the door out of the track. Take photos for your insurance, then call us to look at panels, track and rollers.

Before you call

Do you come out at night?

Sunday to Thursday, yes. Call and we’ll tell you when the tech can be there.

Is it safe to leave the door open overnight?

The door itself is fine where it is. The problem is the house being open. Lock the inside door from the garage, keep valuables out of sight, and call us.

Can I get my car out if the door won’t open?

If a spring is broken, don’t force it. The door is too heavy to lift safely and can drop. We’ll get it open for you.

Will you tell me the price first?

Always. The tech tells you what’s wrong and what it costs, and starts only when you say OK.
